Harry looses half a leg

To some people this is the autumn, and to others it is fall, but to Harry its a time when he can easily loose things among the leaves. Today he has lost half a leg. He is looking around wondering "Where did it go?"

A gnome has started fishing in front of the Roysse Room on Bridge Street. He is saying to Harry "You can watch but don't frighten the fish!"

Harry Goes to Church - well almost

Harry went into the church reception area when nobody was about. He rolled upside down and scratched his back on the bristly carpet near the door, then explored the children's activity area. But being just a dog he did not go into the Holy of holies.

Harry Gun Dog

This is harry doing his imitation of a gun dog. Not as good as his bear cub I know. Harry did find a poorly rabbit which just didn't move, but he just stayed by it and did not touch it.

Harry on soil erosion

Harry is on the bank edge looking down a six foot drop to Sandford Brook. He used to be able to get down on a sloping path but it has all eroded away so now he can only look.

Harry and the Lawn Mower

We used to have a Jack Russell called twopence who went crazy when the vacumn cleaner was on. Harry reacts in a similar way to the Lawn Mower. He barks and tries to bite it.

Harry and Fake Paws

Whats it all mean? Well I dunno. I'm only a dog after all. But it seems to me that either you have got paws or you aint. You can't fake them!

Harry on Cricket

Harry likes most ball games. But a cricket ball is too hard to bite, and too big to fit in his mouth.

Harry's Got Talent

Its a couple of hours before the Abingdon's Got Talent final, and Harry went on stage for his brief fifteen seconds of glory.

Harry has had his annual strip as well. A Border Terrier's hair just pulls out to reveal a strange tidy dog underneath. But it doesn't last long. Soon have the scruffy Harry back.

Long time no scent

Since Steve closed the shop Harry doesn't see Harvey quite so often but we did meet up today in the Abbey Meadows.

Mascot in Training

Harry supports the well known Abingdon team: Saxton Rovers. But he tends to use his teeth on the ball much too much to have a future as a footballer. Maybe they will let him be mascot one day.

Underpass Mural Dog

On the Underpass Mural, representing the History of Abingdon, the characters are mostly humans, but there is one dog - a Kings Charles Cavalier.

Harry and Posing

The man with the camera is trying to take a picture of Harry showing excitement at a stick being thrown.

Normally Harry will get really excited when a stick is about to be really thrown.

Harry is not into posing. Either its happening or its not. This stick is not.

Harry on Grafitti and Shakespeare

What Harry likes is a good smell wafted on the wind. He'll stop, and turn to have a good sniff around.

But all that graffiti is frankly way over his little doggy head. It might as well be Shakespeare for the sense it makes to him.

Harry and Brindle - Part 1

Harry hasn't seen my nephew's dog, Brindle, since he was a puppy. We thought we'de introduce them in the open fields. They ran about chasing each other, and sniffed the same things.

But when we got back to a house in a confined space they both went for each other.

No damage done. We pulled them apart quickly. To be continued... possibly.

Free Water Bowls

It was very hot at the Dragon Boat Racing this year. But lots of the stalls had water bowls for dogs.

Doggy Heaven

Harry particularly enjoyed one part of the Abingdon Air and Country Show. His tail was wagging and he was tembling with excitement as he watched the little ducklings and rabbits and guinea pigs. It was like doggy heaven and he did NOT want to leave.

Harry seems a bit unnerved at first by the appearance of the tardis at the Abingdon Air and Country Show.

Harry did get some snow today

He was running about like a mad thing in the unexpected snow. The only real snow all winter and it came in April.

Thames Path

The Thames Path is underwater at the moment so it makes the walk a bit different.

A windy day

On a windy day like today it would be easy for a small dog to get blown away.

A sharp frost does nothing to stop the Border terrier from running free across the grass of the Caldecott Rec.

Enjoying the View

When nobody is about, Harry sits on the back of a chair looking out of the window. Its his waiting place, when the rest of the pack are away.

But the moment somebody comes through the door he is off to greet them.

Harry's Christmas

Harry spent Christmas with Barry and Eileen in the small village of Gleastone in Cumbria. The village is in a narrow valley. An old Mill is the most well known attraction. But there is also a tumble down castle with a cow sheds built against the walls. Houses here are flooded by the Beck from time to time. Harry loved it there.

No Harm

Somebody did say that if time did become a problem then the Harry Blog could probably be the first thing to go.

But I said it is only a very occasional thing, and only takes five minutes at most, and is really not doing anybody any harm.

Keyskill 2 - Shaking

Once the terrier has burrowed in and retrieved the pink animal, he gives it a jolly good shaking, making lots of growly noises. This is another keyskill for a ratter.

Keyskill 1 - Burrowing

Key skills for dogs like Harry don't involve any writing reading and arithmetic. If we had not taken Harry away from the farm where he was born, he might have turned into a ratter like his dad. Harry shows here one of the key skills of a ratter - the desire to pursue his quarry down a hole.

Pushkin and Harry

Harry does not normally eat quite so close to Pushkin. This was just me creating a photo opportunity for Harry's blog.

Harry got through his food twice as fast, and moved in to start on Pushkin's, til I said "Harry?"

Shopping Trolley in the Ock

Harry took fright at something near the Ock this afternoon. He ran over barking, and then just sat there watching.

Hazard Tape Lead

Walking along the river I sometimes drape Harry's lead round my neck. Well today I did that, but after a bit I realised the lead was gone, and I couldn't find it. The only thing I could find to use instead was this hazard tape, left over from the flood.

Our Old Patch

Whenever we cross Drayton Road and go into Ladygrove Meadow, Harry goes mad, and starts dashing round like a March hare. (It is his old patch you see, and he starts picking up the scents of friends from puppyhood).

Today he even met one of his oldest and dearest friends 'Shadow.' In the picture Harry is running up the bank after being in the Ock, and Shadow is saying to him 'Still crazy after all these years!'.

Shadow's owner, told me all the news about the local dogs, and about who has been flooded out by the 'little' River Ock. Many people have temporary caravans in their front gardens - using the caravans as a downstairs until things get sorted.

Time for a walk

"Harry, time for a walk!"

Sometimes he will dash townstairs and skid on the floor at those words. Other times there is a reluctance, and I almost have to drag him down the street.
